While at the Tiesto concert in Victoria Park at the end of July, as promised I kept my eyes open for some great examples of outdoor festival style and there were plenty to chose from. As the weather held out for the day, overcast but not cold, the clear winner for festival style was denim shorts, gladiators and boho tops. Many were taking the boho look as far as they could with flowered hair bands and henna body art. For those who didn’t want to bear all in little shorts, skinny jeans or jeggings were the way to go, allowing a little more freedom in choice of t-shirt. I thnk one of my favourite looks was black skinnies teamed with biker boots, a plain white t-shirt and a t-shirt fabric long waistcoat embellished with antique metal studs. If the rock-chick look is not for you, then go pretty and hippy in florals. A cute flowered mini dress with gladiators will always state festival cool.
In other news, keep a lookout late next year for the Kardashian sisters’ collection. They are launching their first ever collection in late 2011, working with Australian designer Bruno Schiavi. Expect a wide range of clothes from this new collection as the sisters are designing for all their different tastes with clothes for all occasions.
To really spice up your summer style, take tips from Angelina Jolie and Jessica Biel and sizzle in red. Angelina appeared at the Moscow premiere of ‘Salt’ in a floor length halter neck Versace scarlet dress that she dressed down with no jewellery and nude makeup to allow this statement dress to stand-alone. Jessica wore a full length Grecian style scarlet dress by Giambattista Valli at the London premiere of ‘The A Team’, which she cinched in with a black waist sash and teamed with a black clutch and diamond jewellery. To keep up with this hot summer trend, keep your eyes peeled for the red dress feature on www.dresslittleblack.co.uk - coming soon!

It kicked off with the CFDA Awards (Council of Fashion Designers of America) held on July 16th and the fashion pack were out in force for this prestigious event. Gwyneth Paltrow stole the show; making an appearance in a floor length figure hugging Michael Kors number with asymmetric lines and lots of sparkle. The dress conveyed Gwyneth's elegant sense of style and ensured that she continued to reign as America's queen of understated glamour. Lara Stone made an appearance in a strapless knee length dress from the Calvin Kleine Collection teaming her LBD with a gold clutch. Heidi Mount wore a fabulous little black dress with monochrome ruffles down one side by Prabal Gurung. Stella Tennand stood out in a Matrix style floor length leather number by Reed Krakoff, taking the black dress to new levels. Marc Jacobs was named womenswear designer of the year and the menswear designer of the year title was given to David Neville and Marcus Wainwright for Rag & Bone.
The Festival Paris Cinema was also held this month, and the little black dress made a stunning appearance on Elisa Sedaoui who wore Philosophy. Her dress was knee length satin and showed a punk elegance with chunky silver zips on both front pockets and down the front.
Menswear has also had some interesting news this month. Dolce and Gabbana have just signed a three year deal with Chelsea F.C, meaning that we will be seeing the players sporting their exquisitely tailored suits, joining the fashion league of George Clooney who is a huge Dolce and Gabbana fan. The directors' lounge at Stamford Bridge will also be redesigned by the Italian duo, and all female members of staff are being given a Dolce and Gabanna uniform including black heels and a trenchcoat. It seems like it may be time to apply for jobs at Stamford Bridge! At the opening of its new Mayfair store, Acne's creative director Johnny Johansson showed his comfortable style by appearing in black leather pumps, similar in style to the ballet pumps that have become so popular for women. Pumps are slowly coming into style for men, as a comfortable summer shoe, providing men with a choice other than the espadrille.
That's all for this week, I'm heading to see some live outdoor music on Friday so next week I will update you guys with the best ways to rock festival fashion, and try and decide whether I'm a Team Moss or a Team Chung follower!

As usual the shopping opportunities were amazing, with an impressive range of brands in both clothing and in beauty and cosmetics. Not only were there plenty of stalls to keep shoppers happy for hours but there were many little events going on around Earls Court to keep you entertained. The style stage had fashion and beauty demonstrations, showing the audience how to wear current summer trends trend reports for autumn/winter 2010 collections so visitors. Fresh20 is a charity aiming to improve health in poverty stricken countries by providing clean water for drinking and sanitation. They appeared in Earls Court with a giant water tank into which celebrities were submerged for photo shoots. We caught KissFM morning show DJ Charlie Hedges’ shoot, and I was impressed by how glamorous and composed she managed to look while in a giant tank of water!
The show in the Fashion Theatre was most definitely the highlight of the day. Hosted by Dave Berry, known for presenting T4 from 2006/07 the show kicked off with a topless male model presenting a goody-bag to one lucky audience member and a performance from boy band ‘The Wanted’ who got the crowd screaming with a performance of their soon to be released debut single All Time Low. The fashion show itself was themed around 'fashion capitals of the world', and kicked off with an outstanding Japanese themed dance performance, followed by a selection of quirky ‘Tokyo style’ outfits including creative silhouettes, garish colours and even a panda bear style jumpsuit. New York followed Tokyo, opening with a street dance scene, all of the dancers wore brightly coloured street attire, the men in tracksuits and the girls in mini skirts, skin tight t-shirts and leggings. The models then took to the stage displaying a range of New York style outfits, from casual sportswear to street fashion. The dancers took over from the models once again to introduce the high fashion look of Italy, with all the men in suits and the women in beautiful dresses and trouser suits, an elegant dance scene was performed before the models came out to display more elegant Italian style attire. Following on from Italy came Paris, with a Moulin Rouge themed dance scene to open. With the women in lace, silk, ruffles and frills the fun and sexy face of Parisian fashion was shown to avid watchers before the models came out in floor length dresses, decorative hats and smart yet stylish trouser suits, displaying its chic, elegant and mature face. Finally came the capital that the audience had been waiting for and London style hit the catwalk. Celebrating the best of British style from 2009 and spring/summer 2010 and showcasing the new autumn/winter collections for this year, the performers ensured that the show was one to remember. Adorned in a variety of outfits that ranged from punk to rave to Smart Street the dancers and models celebrated London fashion to the sound of The Clash and ended the forty-five minute fashion showcase to tumultuous applause.
We also headed to the Firetrap party this week on Tues 29th, which was held to display their spring/summer 2011 collection. The event was held in a converted warehouse, with a DJ set up on one side and a bar on the other. It was a busy event with over 100 people attending, and we even saw one of the dancers from the Clothes Show heading up to the bar. The clothes showcased were edgy, urban and perfect for London street wear.
That’s all from me this week, as usual I will be keeping my eyes open for all the latest fashion news and celebrity style throughout the week so you guys can know what’s going on and what will keep you ahead of the fashion pack.

The little black dress has been making some dramatic red carpet appearances in 2010, proving its timeless high fashion quality. In January, Marion Cotillard wore a one-shouldered simply lined Elie Saab dress to the Palm Springs International Film Festival that oozed understated glamour and femininity. She teamed her LBD with black leather studded Christian Dior heels and a beaded clutch to give this feminine dress a soft rock look.
More recently Cameron Diaz has walked the red carpet in a little black dress by Lanvin at the premier of her new film, co-starring Tom Cruise, Knight and Day. Only this morning, when I was reading a copy of Hello! Magazine, Cheryl Cole was pictured at the Cannes Film Festival Cheryl continuing to prove herself as the up and coming glamorous face of British women wearing a stunning Roberto Cavalli evening gown with a flowing black tule skirt. The little black dress has well and truly come into it’s own this season, with so many different styles and ways to wear it that there is guaranteed to be a look that suits everyone.
Throughout Paris Fashion Week for autumn/winter ’09, the little black dress was a constant, not only on the catwalk but also being displayed on many front row fashion savvy celebrities. At Miu Miu, Kate Moss kept up to date with the seasons leather trend in a skin tight LBD. Katy Perry was to be seen wearing an elegant and stylish black dress, with sculptured shoulders from the Karl Lagerfeld collection and Rhianna grabbed a front row seat at Gareth Pugh in one of his own revealing creations.
More recently in the autumn/winter shows for 2010, the little black dress once again made catwalk appearances, with Stella McCartney featuring a number of variations of the wardrobe staple through her ‘underwear as outerwear’ designs. These gave the little black dress a modern, simple, sexy and feminine twist, with simple lines and delicate fabrics. Silk and chiffon are a must for those wishing to try out this daring take on the classic LBD, keep all accessories neutral and makeup natural.
Balmain brought the LBD to the autumn/winter catwalks with a simple feminine mini, perfect for those conscious of their upper arms as it has full-length sleeves. With highly accentuated shoulders and a daringly low cut neckline this LBD is perfect teamed with chunky heeled boots and an on trend skinny waist belt.
Dries Van Noten also showed the little black dress in their autumn/winter ’10 collection. Texture, tailoring and subtle patterning are key features in their designs for this season, with the dresses exuding grown-up elegance. The look is sophisticated with half sleeves and knee length skirts showing throughout the collection. Simple scoop necks and waistlines match perfectly with killer heels in muted colours and statement bags. In contrast to the understated elegance of Dries Van Noten, House of Holland designer Henry Holland went all out with his colourful designs for autumn/winter ’10. His creations had a sportswear feel, with jersey and cotton used to create a sporty LBD with full sleeves and a simple white waistline. Teamed with wedges or killer heels and big colourful jewellery, this look affords the wearer the glamour of the LBD in the evening, without having to look too dressed up. Holland also gives the little black dress a thoroughly space-age twist in his leather and pale turquoise wool dress. This may be a dress for the more daring but Holland’s designs show the versatility of the LBD, either dressed down glamour or high-end extreme fashion.

In the words of Coco Chanel, ‘Fashion fades, only style remains the same’. For elegant, timeless and comfortable style there’s no doubt that style is the little black dress.
